Day Trip in Komodo National Park and Flores Land Tour - 6 Days

Labuan Bajo in the west of Flores Island is the gateway to Komodo National Park. Just 20 years ago, Labuan Bajo was a sleepy fishing village. In the course of marketing the Komodo National Park, with its impressive underwater world and wildlife, a tourist infrastructure has developed here with hotels, dive shops and restaurants. In Komodo National Parks on the islands of Rinca and Komodo, the prehistoric-looking largest lizards in the world live in the wild. On a boat day trip from Labuan Bajo you will discover the islands of the UNESCO-protected Komodo National Park and will almost certainly see the Komodo dragons.

In contrast to Labuan Bajo, the country site of Flores Island has hardly been discovered by tourists and is a paradise for lovers of beautiful natural landscapes. Volcanoes and colour-changing crater lakes, spider web paddy fields, ancient villages, jungles and beaches - these are the scenic and cultural highlights of Flores that you will discover on a 4-day land tour.

Day 5:

The 3-colored Lakes of the Volcano Kelimutu ➝ Ende

Kelimutu is a volcano near Moni in Central Flores in Indonesia. Kelimutu Volcano consists of three crater lakes that have different colors due to minerals. The colors of the lakes have changed drastically several times over the years. The lunar landscape of the craters is believed by locals to be a haunt of spirits. The name Kelimutu itself means 'keli' = 'mountain' and 'mutu' = 'boiling' in the local language.

For the sunrise on Kelimutu you have to get up early in the morning. After about 30 minutes we reach the parking lot and here a pleasant walk over 1.5 km and 127 steps leads to the viewing terrace of Kelimutu at 1690 meters. From here you have a wonderful view of all three differently colored crater lakes of Kelimutu and the surrounding landscape. Amidst this lunar landscape, the colors of the lakes look spectacular. It is always a surprise what colors Kelimutu's crater lakes are at the moment.
